Eternal Perspective: Post from class

Week #1:
I loved the part in which Elder John Groberg mention that Heavenly Father created Adam first “ But Adam alone was not a family. So he created Eve. She became not only a help-mate, but a soul mate and completed the foundation for continuing families.” I think for us that is an easy concept to understand. “ Man can not be alone”.  By ourselves we can’t form a family we need a spouse that will help us fulfill that. Those things are part of the plan. We are here to bring more souls unto this Earth. It is so important that we understand that we can’t fulfill that part of the plan alone. We are not meant to do it alone we need a significant other. This is such a simple concept to understand but there are many out there that don’t understand it.
I also enjoyed what he said about our ancestors, “I testify that we can be influenced and strengthened by those who have gone before, by those who are with us now and by those who are yet to come. I know it is so.” That is such a strong statement. It reminds me of what President Hinckley said, " Temple work is concern with each of us as members of God's eternal family". It is so important to do the Lord;s worl that we will be guided with divine inspiration to perform the things that we need to in the Lord's house.

Week #2

How to get started on your family History

-Start by collecting personal items ( Gather information from home Video)

  • Get a box and locate it in a place where it will get noticed
  •  look for things around your home that are part of your family history
    • Marriage certificates, Pictures, stories, etc

- Collect information from family members ( Gather information from Family Video)

  • Ask them about birth dates, pictures, stories journals
  • Include any family history work that they have done
  • Interview grandparents or elderly family members

- Gather information online

  • There are various sites that can help you with genealogy work
    • Familysearch.org
    • Newfamilyseach.org
    • ancestry .com
      • You can either start with those sites or add information

- Analyze linkage between family members

  • What for last names, grandparent names, family patterns.

-Be organized

  • As you search for your ancestors make sure you are organize with paper work
  • Manage your time
  • Locate things that they belong together
  • Make copies of original records
  • Keep track of your searches

As you search for your ancestors don’t forget that they will be with you, guiding you through every process. They will help you find individuals that you weren’t expecting to find. They will help you through the other side. Don’t be afraid. As you search for your ancestors, miracles will be preformed.

Week #3

The PowerPoint had great information. I loved the quote that said, “An additional change we need to make is in how we view the work we need to do.” (slide 7)  I think that many times our view on doing our own family history work is a little negative. We think it is going to take a long time and we don’t have that amount of time to put into it because we are so busy with school, work, being parents, etc.
It is true that doing family history will take time, but as the quote says we need to change our view. Rather than thinking negatively we need to think of all the individuals that have been waiting for centuries to have their work done and the blessings that we receive as we become part of this work.
Changing our view on family history will help us become existed about doing the Lord’s Work.  How we view things will transmit onto our performance and commitment to family history work.
I also like how the presentation mentioned that family work is not like painting a room. “It is not a job we will complete. It is more like exercise. Something we will do again and again without a plan to finish. If we approach family history/temple work as painting we may be frustrated, whereas approaching it as exercise will cause it to be invigorating.” ( Slide 8) As we approach our family history we need to remember that it will never be done there is always something else to do. We can not be discourage, but we need to view what we are doing as an opportunity to serve those that love us and as an opportunity to gain a testimony of Heavenly Father’s plan.
